The International Convention on the Rights of the Child

The International Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted in 1989 by the United Nations General Assembly.
It is based on four fundamental principles:

Non-discrimination;

The best interest of the child;
-
The right to live, survive, and develop;

Respect for the child’s views.

Luxembourg ratified the Convention in 1993. As such, Luxembourg committed to upholding the 42 rights stated in the Convention, including:
- The right to have a name, nationality, and identity;
- The right to access the best health care;
- The right to education;
- The right to protection from all forms of violence;
- The right to protection against exploitation;
- The right to protection against discrimination;
- The right to freedom of expression and to voice one’s opinion;
- The right to privacy;
- The right to participate.
